 Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How can our AA group remain autonomous if our meeting moves to the Wake Forest Alano Club. Will we still have control of our meeting format, funds, and by-laws?.

A. The answer to these questions is yes. Each group has total control of their own format, funds, by-laws etc. All meetings at the WAC are autonomous. The Wake Forest Alano Club only rents time slots in the building to AA meeting as suggested in the AA service manual. The Wake Forest Alano Club will not organize, direct, or chair ANY meeting on the Clubs premises. If no one shows up to chair or attend your meeting no meeting will be held. (WAC’s By-laws ARTICLE l l l - PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES Section 5.)

Q. Can the Wake Forest Alano Club rent space and time slots to a Bingo business, electronics club, credit recovery or a religious organization?

A. The Wake Forest Alano Clubs by-laws prohibit this from occurring. The WAC's by-laws state that the clubs purpose is to provide alcoholics, addicts, and their families a place to meet, to advance their spiritual, mental, and emotional advancement by providing a place for 12 step recovery programs to meet. These types of for profit and hobby clubs do not fall into this category. WAC’s By-laws ARTICLE l l l - PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES Sections 1 thru 3.

Q. My understanding is WAC will have meetings like the Camel Club – just another “choice” for AA’s of meetings in another location.

A.The meetings that occur at the WAC must be organized by a 12 step recovery group. Please read the WAC’s document on the differences between meetings and groups.

Q. What 12 step programs will have meetings there?

A.The Club is open to all 12 step programs to apply for a day and time slot for their meetings. This includes, but is not limited to Alcoholics Anonymous, Alanon, Adult Children of Alcoholics, Al-Anon/Alateen, Narcotics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, Crystal Meth Anonymous, Overeaters Anonymous, Sexual Compulsives Anonymous, Debtors Anonymous and other recognized 12 step recovery programs.

Q. What are the hours of the club and will it just be open for meetings?

A.The open hours of the club has yet to be determined, but the hours the club will be open will be directed by the times frames used by 12 step recovery programs.

Q. Will someone always be there with a key to open up?

A.The WAC will provide a key or combination lock to all groups meeting at the club.

Q. Can the WAC be my Home Group?

A.A person in recovery may choose any “group” that meets at the WAC for a home group if they desire because each group is automouis and not affiliated with the WAC.

Q. Does it cost anything to attend meetings at WAC?

A.No. The WAC is supported by our membership and the rental fees paid by 12 step recovery meetings that use our facility.

Q. Will there be gender specific groups at the WAC?

A. Many members of the WAC have voiced their hope that this will occur, but this will be decided by the 12 step groups that meet at the WAC and not the WAC.

Q. How does a group apply for a meeting space/time?

A. Any 12 step recovery program may fill out an application to hold meeting in the club. The application is then brought before the board to review the day and time slots currently available for approval.

Q. Will the group have dues? What are the dues for Groups?

A. A 12 step recovery group does not pay dues to the club. They do however need to pay rent to use the facility.

Q. Someone asked me if the WAC is replacing current meetings in Wake Forest, i.e., the “Nooner’s",“Living Sober” or the Wake Forest Group?

A. The Wake Forest Alano Club is not “replacing” any meeting or group in the area, but the WAC is offering our building and facilities to these groups to hold their meeting if they desire. The WAC is a non-profit organization whose sole purpose is to advance the Spiritual, Mental, and Physical welfare of our recovering membership and those in our community. (WAC’s By-laws ARTICLE l l l - PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES Section 4.)

Q. Will we have a schedule published on the district calendar or will groups be responsible for changing meeting place and reporting this to the district?

A. The WAC will request the Tri-County Intergroup office to add all meetings at the WAC to it meeting schedule as well as publishing a meeting schedule for meetings held at the WAC. You can also check out website for a list of meetings.

Q. How will rent be determined for a group?

A. Monthly rent for a group is 40% of the group’s monthly 7th tradition basket or $30.00 a month whichever is greater.

Q. Can the facility be rented for use for functions that are not sponsored directly by a group or other entity within the service structure of AA or another 12-step program?

A. No, the Wake Forest Alano Clubs By-laws only allows the WAC to rent to 12 step recovery programs.
